Government Affairs

MMGMA has increased its visibility and effectiveness in legislative and regulatory issues in recent years. Efforts are led by the Government Affairs Committee, (GAC) which is comprised of clinic managers and other health professionals drawn from across the state and representing a range of clinic specialties. GAC's purpose is to track and monitor health plan requirements and regulatory issues which negatively impact medical practices. Each year GAC determines its legislative priorities and develops strategies to effectively deal with challenging issues for medical practices.

MMGMA retains a professional lobbying organization, Lockridge Grindal and Nauen, to assist us in advancing our issues, and GAC has initiated a "key contact" program matching our members with legislators to provide timely, local input on issues that affect our patients and practices. MMGMA members are also surveyed on important issues to insure that we correctly understand how various issues affect practices.

Both the summer and winter meetings include legislative update sessions designed to enhance awareness of health care challenges and threats and include forums for members to raise issues of concern that MMGMA's GAC can address.
