Assignment of Benefits Comes Under Review

▲ back to top

Earlier this year, MMGMA was asked to support an Amicus Brief that is being filed with the Minnesota Supreme Court for a legal case on assignment of benefits. Assignment of benefits refers to the arrangement by which a patient requests that his or her health benefit payments be made directly to a designated person or facility, such as a physician or hospital. MMGMA had the opportunity to review and offer input regarding the language of the Amicus Brief earlier this summer. That brief has now been finalized and will be filed in August. If you have questions, please feel free to contact the Committee Chair, Eric Tempelis.

$400+ Raised for MMGMA PAC at Summer Conference

▲ back to top

Several members of the Government Affairs Committee were at the Summer Conference to answer questions and collect contributions for the MMGMA political action committee (PAC). More than $400 was raised during the conference from generous donors. Remember that any MMGMA member can be active with the PAC. A good way to start is by participating in the quarterly PAC conference calls. Those calls are specifically scheduled over the lunch hour for people who may have potential legal conflicts with doing PAC business on company time. The next PAC conference call is scheduled for September 12. Discussion topics generally include ways to be more involved, PAC disbursement recommendations and other updates. If you would like to participate, please RSVP to Josie Lonetti at jlonetti@messerlikramer.com and you will be provided with the call-in information for the next call.

Minnesota’s Health Care Homes (HCH) program is soliciting stakeholder feedback on recommended program enhancements over the next few years. Public comment is invited through two online surveys in response to a Request for Information (RFI) and at three public meetings held earlier in August. Responses will be accepted through September 9, 2016. The RFI document with recommended program changes can be accessed on the HCH website News and Announcements page. After reading this document, comment is invited through two surveys:

Committee Updates

▲ back to top

Communications Committee

Thank you to everyone who participated in our Twitter campaign during the Summer Conference. We welcome your feedback on the value. The Communications Committee also welcomes new members for the 2016-2017 year. Please forward any suggestions to Sue Haberle at susan.haberle@habcom.biz, and she will contact the individual.

Membership Committee

The MMGMA membership committee is seeking a new committee member for the 2016-2017 year. This member would also serve as MMGMA’s committee representative and would attend the quarterly MMA Membership/Communication meetings and share the information back to MMGMA.  In this role, the time commitment would include attending the quarterly MMA meetings, which are held on a Monday evening, and attending the following MMGMA Membership Committee meeting. The individual would not be expected to attend all membership meetings. This is a great networking opportunity both within MMGMA and to meet MMA committee members, as well!  If you are interested, please contact Kim Thompson at KTHOMPS1@Fairview.org.
