President’s Letter
To my fellow MMGMA members, friends and business partners; I am excited to have the opportunity to lead our MMGMA organization over the next twelve months. We are all working directly or indirectly in an industry that is undergoing change, restructuring, and technological advancement in a manner that has never existed before. Our MMGMA organization will play a critical and important role for you as a go to for knowledge; information sharing; advocacy and to offer you a steady hand when needed. As we enter our new year I would like to acknowledge the work of our past Board members and to William Evans, our Past President. Our incoming Board members and Executive Committee members are as strong and talented as we have ever had. I would also highlight the very capable service we receive from Synergos, AMC for our contracted management support.
This year we will hold our Winter Conference at the Minneapolis Depot and Summer Conference at Breezy Point. In addition and for what has now become our third major conference, Day with Payers will be held at the Earle Brown Heritage Center. We look forward to seeing you at the conferences. I also want to acknowledge our important business partners who join our organization and work with us to make the conferences successful. It would be impossible to do what we do without you. MMGMA asks for your continued support through annual sponsorship, event sponsorship, exhibiting and sharing your expert knowledge.
We will begin to operate more closely with MGMA National in 2015. You will see this in our new logo design, in our communications and educational offerings. Not to worry, we will maintain our strong Minnesota individualism and character which has carried us for over 50 years.

Government Affairs Committee:

New MN APRN Nurse License Requirements
Legislation was passed earlier this year requiring Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN) to be licensed as of January 1, 2015. The authorization to practice as an APRN will require individuals to be licensed as an APRN and maintain current certification by a national nurse certification organization acceptable to the board as a clinical nurse specialist (CNS), certified nurse practitioner (CNP), certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA), or certified nurse midwife (CNM). The Minnesota Board of Nursing began accepting applications for APRN licenses on October 14, 2014. The MN Board of Nursing is advising APRNs to apply early. They will not be authorized to practice as an APRN after December 31, 2014, without an APRN license.

MMGMA Members meet with Legislators
The government affairs committee (GAC) has developed a list of key members of the Minnesota Legislature that are in leadership positions or members that serve health policy and health finance committees. The GAC committee members are meeting with these legislators to make them aware of MMGMA and our priority issues, be a resource of information, and to build a relationship with them. On October 7, 2014 MMGMA members Darla Morris-Preble, Patrick Howard and Anita Lang met with Representative Paul Thissen (DFL), the Speaker of the House. On Thursday, October 9, 2014 MMGMA member Mike Foley met with Representative Kurt Daudt (R), the Minority Leader. The meetings with the leaders of the two parties in the Minnesota House included a contribution from MMGMA PAC.
