Tell Us About Your Payer Relationships by May 31

▲ back to top

Are you having challenges with call waits, claim appeals, process or payment delays? Do you receive timely notifications of contract terms, policies, procedures and fee schedules as required by law? Are you pleased with payer responsiveness? Please send an email with your feedback to the Payer Relations Committee Chair, Mike Brendalen, Be sure to include information about which payers, plans and topics provide the greatest concern or solutions for your organization. Also, after our May 18 Day with the Payers, we will send a short survey seeking more detailed information to use during future MMGMA payer meetings. Please watch for the email and take three minutes by May 31 to answer the questions. Your feedback will help us understand the experience of our members and determine how we might use our collective MMGMA voice to address related issues. We will share a summary of the survey results with participants.

State Budget Negotiations Unresolved

▲ back to top

State budget negotiations between Republican legislative leaders and Governor Dayton have stalled. On May 8, the legislature signed conference committee reports for a number of omnibus budget bills (Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources, Health and Human Services, State Government Operations, and K-12 Education). These are bills that did not reflect a budget compromise with Governor Dayton. By May 12, the governor had vetoed each of those bills. In the meantime, policy discussions continue that include several proposals related to MMGMA’s legislative priorities. Learn more about the status of MMGMA issues here.

ACMPE Exams Undergoing Facelifts

▲ back to top

The ACMPE Exam Development Committee has designed an objectively scored, scenario-based exam to replace the current essay exam in September 2017. The ACMPE multiple choice exam will stay as is. Between June 10 and 24, members who sign up to pilot the new exam will pay only $99 versus the standard $165 per exam. The new exam will consist of 18-25 scenarios, each followed by three or four questions that focus on critical skills and knowledge a candidate would be expected to have in the described situation. The 90 questions are presented as multi-select, multiple choice, short answer, or drag and drop matching. In January 2019, the qualifications to apply for ACMPE certification will change. In addition to requiring two years of health care experience and six months in a supervisory role, applicants will be required to hold a bachelor’s degree or 120 college credit hours upon applying. For further information or questions about the updates, please reach out to Kelly Suskie at 501-912-2394,, or to Marynell Lubinski at 305-514-8522, of the Certification Commission.
