Winter Conference Round Up

Conference delivers solid information, connections
  • What’s one way to change your practice on-hold messaging to be more consumer friendly?
  • What are three things you can do right now to draw more visits to your LinkedIn account?
  • How can you become more effective in your approach to Baby Boomers versus those who are Millennials?
The answers to these questions are just a few of the great tips and ideas you may have gleaned as one of more than 200 attendees at the 2014 MMGMA Winter Conference at the Renaissance Depot Hotel this year in Minneapolis.
While we’re still processing attendee feedback, early indicators show that the 2014 Winter Conference delivered on expectations.
We already are looking forward to our Summer Conference. Mark your calendar for July 23-25 at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center. We’re building a dynamic line-up, so plan to enjoy a port city get-away! For more about MMGMA conference planning, contact Christiaan Engstrom,

Legislative Update outlines priorities
MMGMA already is speaking out to lawmakers about our priority legislative issues. Following is a sampling of positions presented by our lobbyists at Messerli and Kramer at the Winter Conference. We support:
  • Greater risk-sharing between health plans and providers for when consumers fall short on their health insurance deductible payments.
  • Reducing the harm of growing abuse and misuse of opioids, while protecting physicians' autonomy to treat patients in a manner that physicians believe is best.
  • More transparency and notice when contract questions arise and changes in amendments or fee schedules occur on insurance policies.

Verify all new health insurance exchange patients
back to top
Minnesota health plans strongly encourage you to verify eligibility with them before you see any new MNSure health insurance exchange patients who present at your practice. Health plan online eligibility is the most up-to-date source of enrollment information to make sure the patient has coverage. MNsure open enrollment for 2014 ends March 31. The next open enrollment deadline is slated for Nov. 15 for effective date Jan. 1, 2015.

Health plans to send details about Medicare/Medicaid payments
Watch for communication by March 31 from your health plan representatives about how the plans will adjudicate payments for any dates of service since Jan. 1.
