LAST CALL to Join Work Group to Address BCBS Concerns

▲ back to top

If you are interested, we need to hear from you by July 31. There are two ways to participate:

  • Join the work group, and/or
  • Provide examples and documentation of BCBS concerns

Our Government Affairs Committee (GAC) has created a work group to address growing member concerns with Blue Cross and Blue Shield (BCBS). MMGMA President Sandy Rutherford and Past-President Darla Morris-Preble are co-chairing this work group. GAC is seeking MMGMA members interested in being a part of the work. The meetings will take place throughout the summer and will accommodate phone-in participants. The first meeting is planned for Thursday, August 3. Members of the work group will help to collect clear-cut examples for each of the major problem areas, gather documentation to support those concerns and prepare a summary document. A submission form for such examples is being developed and will be available at the Summer Conference and emailed to members in the next two weeks. If you are interested in serving on this new work group or are able to provide examples and documentation of BCBS concerns, please contact Lisa Belak, GAC committee chair,, by end of day on Monday, July 31.

GAC Seeks Feedback About Legislative Surprises

▲ back to top

A couple of surprise issues surfaced during this year’s legislative session, and MMGMA will be working to develop an official position for those bills this fall. The draft bills address two different subjects – required Health Care Price Disclosures and Physician Non-Compete clauses in employment contracts. Both bills may be considered again during the 2018 legislative session. Our Government Affairs Committee (GAC) will be soliciting feedback on these items at the Summer Conference and through additional outreach. You can read these draft bills here. Please contact Lisa Belak, GAC committee chair,, to weigh in with your support or opposition to the bills, and watch your emails for other opportunities to express your position.
