MMGMA 2017 Summer Conference and Golf Event: Networking, Education, Entertainment… A Success!

▲ back to top

MMGMA once again hosted its Summer Conference and golf event at Breezy Point in July and, as always, it was a great time!

The golf event kicked off the conference with donations to the Grosskopf Education Fund from participants totaling $550. Kudos to those who purchased mulligans in support of this fundraising effort! Wednesday evening was a time to network with colleagues and get reacquainted. Energizing the crowd in Thursday’s opening keynote was inspirational and PASSIONATE speaker Mark Lindquist, followed by sessions exploring marketing, telemedicine, private equity transactions, tackling difficult conversations, narrow networks, employee engagement, and provider and payer markets. After we enjoyed time with colleagues, conversation and good food at dinner, Elvis gifted us with a show on the waterfront. A lucky few were serenaded and ended the evening with token leis and scarves from the king himself! Friday ended the conference with the MGMA legislative update, followed by a closing keynote panel discussing innovations in the Minnesota healthcare market. If there were any topics you were hoping to hear that didn’t make it into this year’s conference agenda, be sure to send your suggestions to us for 2018. Contact Sandy Rutherford at sjrutherford@khsinc.org or Steve Gerberding at sgerberding@acmc.com.

Thank you to all exhibitors and sponsors who made the MMGMA Summer Conference happen! We couldn’t have had such a successful event without your support!

Medical Organizations, Physicians and Medical Students Key in Passing Amendment to Restrict Menthol-Flavored Tobacco Products

▲ back to top

Beginning August 1, 2018, menthol will be included in the City of Minneapolis’ existing flavored tobacco restrictions, limiting their sale to adult-only shops. Strong support for this measure came from the Physician Advocacy Network, the Twin Cities Medical Society, medical students and physicians from across Minnesota as advocates contacted council members, signed postcards, wrote in to The Minnesota Daily publication, and testified at a public hearing. With the success of restricting menthol in Minneapolis, Minnesotans in the medical field can also work to support the same amendment in St. Paul this September.

“St. Paul will consider its own amendment to restrict the sale of menthol tobacco in September. St. Paul’s public hearing will take place on September 20 at 5:30 pm with a final vote occurring on September 27. We’re excited to have ongoing physician and medical student involvement as we work toward another victory across the river!”
Sue A. Schettle, Chief Executive Officer, TCMS
