Proposed bill on high deductible risk-sharing recognizes MMGMA voice in state politics

▲ back to top

MMGMA is mentioned for the first time in a draft piece of Minnesota legislation. Known as HF-2563, the bill relates to our third legislative priority:  Risk-sharing between insurers and providers in high deductible products.  Authored by Rep. Tony Albright (R, Prior Lake/Shakopee), the bill proposes establishing a task force on the cost of high deductible health plans, mentioning inclusion of members appointed by MMGMA. For more information about the work of MMGMA’s Government Affairs Committee (GAC) on your behalf, please see an update on the status of our legislative priorities.

April 25 MMA Forum to Address Changes to Health Care Policy

▲ back to top

The Minnesota Medical Association will hold a forum on Tuesday, April 25, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. to address changes to health care policy, nationally and in Minnesota. Although much is uncertain, the recent decision by the U.S. House of Representatives to withdraw an Affordable Care Act replacement bill from consideration will not be the end of congressional and administration changes to health care.

The MMA has an excellent panel lined up for the forum, including Jean Abraham, Wegmiller Professor and Master of Healthcare Administration Program Director at the University of Minnesota; Emily Johnson Piper, Commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Human Services; and Rich Deem, Senior Vice President of Advocacy for the American Medical Association.

The April 25 forum will be held at the University of Minnesota Continuing Education and Conference Center on the St. Paul campus and also will be available via live-streaming. There will be ample time for Q&A and discussion.

The MMA welcomes participation by MMGMA members. Please consider sharing information about the event with your colleagues.  For more details and information about the program, visit the MMA website.

The Minnesota Rural Health Cooperative (MRHC) is a cooperative including 19 critical access hospitals and 26 clinics in rural Minnesota. In continuing efforts to connect with organizations who support healthcare goals throughout Minnesota, we were invited to help coordinate a legislative update at the MRHC annual membership meeting on April 27 in Olivia, Minn.
