Congress Repeals SGR!

▲ back to top
In a significant victory for physician group practices and MGMA, late this evening the Senate voted (92-8) to approve the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act, H.R. 2. This legislation, which passed the House of Representatives on March 26, permanently repeals the Medicare Sustainable Growth Rate (SGR) formula. President Obama publicly stated that he will sign the bill into law.
Permanent repeal of the SGR has been a top priority of MGMA’s advocacy efforts. We thank our members for their critical grassroots support in getting this legislation passed.
MGMA president and chief executive officer Halee Fischer-Wright, MD, MMM, FAAP, released the following statement: “This is a historic day—the dark cloud over physician group practices has been lifted. The Senate vote to permanently repeal the SGR returns stability to physicians and Medicare patients alike. MGMA congratulates Congress on this momentous, bipartisan achievement.”

MMGMA Announces Three-Year (Transferrable) Memberships

▲ back to top
Conference Registration Discount Offered with Regular Three-Year Memberships
Individuals qualifying for the Regular membership may now choose a three-year membership option and pay for three years of dues up front. In addition to all of the benefits of Regular membership, three year memberships are transferrable, and three-year members have the opportunity to use a $50 registration discount code for either the Winter or Summer Conference during the first year of their current three-year membership term. You may transfer your membership to another individual at any time (but not the conference registration discount).
Prior to each conference, eligible members will receive an email containing a conference registration discount code that is unique to that conference.
The discount code can only be used:
  • For either the Winter or Summer Conference (not both).
  • Within the first year of the current three-year membership. (If it is not used within that time period, the benefit is voided for that three-year membership.)
Please note that the discount code is non-transferable (eligible members may not provide their discount code to someone else). If a three-year membership is transferred from one individual to another within the first year of the membership, the registration discount benefit is voided. The discount code will only be accepted via online pre-registration with payment made by credit card at time of registration. (Discount codes will not be accepted after the online registration form has been submitted, and will not be accepted for walk-in registrations.)

ICD-10 Update

▲ back to top
October 1, 2015 is the compliance date for the ICD-10 transition, and (hopefully) our MMGMA groups are well into the preparation process. We have shared the link from the Minnesota Administrative Uniformity Committee (AUC) below and encourage all members to review the information published by the individual Minnesota payers.
The AUC is a voluntary, broad-based group representing Minnesota health care public and private payers, hospitals, health care providers and state agencies, working to standardize, streamline, and simplify health care administrative processes. MMGMA is a member of the Minnesota Administrative Uniformity Committee and the ICD-10 Collaborative.

Embark on a thought-provoking, energizing and engaging tour of topics to equip your practice to deliver the best for your patients and your business. Exhibitor & Sponsorship Committee

Thanks to all of the MMGMA members who sponsored an event at our Winter Conference and to those who made the time and effort to exhibit. We appreciate your participation and hope you agree that the conference was a big success! It’s not too early to start thinking about the Summer Conference coming up in July. Remember to talk to your business partners about exhibiting at or attending this important meeting, too!
Summer Conference exhibit and sponsorship opportunities are now available. The Summer Conference is widely supported by our many business partners who exhibit in the resource center and sponsor supportive items making this event possible. Learn more »

Government Affairs Committee

The Government Affairs Committee and its lobbyists from Messerli and Kramer are actively monitoring the current legislative session in St. Paul. Questions still exist about how the projected $1.9 billion state surplus will affect taxes and spending, including Health and Human Services. The gap between the DFL budget targets and the Republican targets is a mere $1.5 billion. A number of our legislative priorities have made progress through the legislature, including proper notice from payers to providers, interstate licensure compact, and reducing the administrative burden of prior authorization.
The Government Affairs Committee makes membership advocacy very easy. It is very important. When you receive a notice about bills receiving attention at the Capitol, you are able to send emails to your elected representatives with just a few clicks of your mouse. Click away!

Membership Committee

We need your help to meet our regular membership goal. We need to add at least ten more regular members to MMGMA by year end. Please chat up our MMGMA upcoming payer and summer conferences and ask colleagues to join MMGMA.

Payer Relations Committee

The Payer Relations Committee (PRC) would like to know about any payer issues your clinics may be experiencing so that they can be addressed at Day with the Payers. Please contact Melissa Larson or Mike Brendalen with these concerns. We do need information by TODAY (Wednesday, April 15) so that PRC can contact the payers and they can be prepared to discuss them at the conference.
2015 MMGMA Day with the Payers is May 21, 2015. Find out more about this event and register to attend, exhibit or sponsor.
