As non-English speaking workers enter MN’s workforce in greater numbers, the need to make appropriate use of interpreter services to assist these workers in navigating the workers’ compensation system becomes more and more important. Interpreters are used in medical and rehab encounters, administrative conferences, mediations, and other situations in the workers’ compensation arena. To help stakeholders become more familiar with the issues surrounding the use of interpreter services in the workers’ compensation context, DLI will host a forum on this issue.
We are planning a four-hour workshop entitled: “Working with Interpreters: A Multi-Cultural Experience” to be held on October 2, 2009 from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm at the Department of Labor and Industry, 443 Lafayette Road, St. Paul. The presentation will be geared toward helping claims adjusters, QRC’s, attorneys and other workers’ compensation professionals learn how to make the best use of interpreter servic.
